Lose 8, 13 or 16 Kilos* With Our Doctors' New DietDr Nilofer Akram is a well regarded expert on weight loss and weight management. As Medical Director of London Diet Clinics, she has helped thousands of patients to lose weight steadily and safely for more than a decade.
“Every day in the clinic I talk to patients who have become really frustrated by yo-yo dieting. They feel good at first because they start to lose weight, but they soon find that the weight comes back on. I wanted to find a new way of helping these people so I started a project with the nutritionists to come up with a new plan.”
Why Do I End Up Heavier Than Ever After Dieting? Most people’s idea of a diet is to skip meals, eat very low calorie diets and generally starve themselves. There’s even a popular programme aimed at making you lighter for life which requires a 500 calorie a day starvation diet of powdered shakes and soups.
Any diet based on starvation is doomed to fail. It’s that simple. As soon as you return to normal eating, your body, now trained to expect starvation at any time, converts as much of the food to fat as possible so it can survive your next attempt to starve it! The result – you end up weighing more than when you started your ‘crash’ diet.
The Slim Well With GL Plan Says Goodbye To Yo-Yo DietingDr Akram’s work with the expert nutritionists at the National Nutrition Clinic has lead to the development of a whole new approach to weight loss. She has concluded that most of the old ways of trying to lose weight simply do not work.
The new plan uses the latest nutritional thinking on managing your blood sugar and food cravings through an eating plan containing foods with a lower glycaemic load. These foods tend to help you feel full for longer, and keep your blood sugar on an even keel between meals.
All The Benefits of the Low GL approach Plus 3 Unique Differences:1. Your eating plan and portion sizes are already worked out for you so you know exactly what to buy and how to eat a healthy diet that will ensure you lose weight
2. The doctor can prescribe medication which takes the edge off your appetite while you get used to your new eating plan. If you want to lose weight but would prefer not to take medication, please ask about our Personal Weight Loss Plan.
3. At each visit to the clinic you receive more help and advice from the doctor as you progress towards your target weight

Top Research Group Proves Our Methods WorkThis new approach has been endorsed by the latest research from the Cochrane Collaboration, released on 18th July 2007. The research studied 202 patients, some of whom were given a low GI diet while others remained on a standard eating plan. Here are the authors’ key findings:
“The overweight or obese people on the low GI diet lost more weight than those receiving standard diets.
Body mass index and cholesterol decreased significantly more in the low GI group.
In comparing low GI diets to restricted calorie low-fat diets, participants fared as well or better on the low GI diet, even though they could eat as much as desired. Lowering the glycaemic load of the diet appears to be an effective method of promoting weight loss and can be simply incorporated into a person's lifestyle.” The Cochrane Collaboration
